Girls Junior Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · Girls Swim & Dive in Fierce Battle for 1st at Class 1 State Championships

The Girls Swimming & Diving Team are in a fierce battle for 1st Place at the MSHSAA Class 1 State Championships.  SR Co-Captain Sophie Fredman broke the Scool Record, yet again, in the prelims of the 100 Breaststroke (down from 1:08.22 to 1:07.53) to be seeded 4th going into the Finals on Friday morning (10:00am-12:00noon) at the St. Peters Recs Plex.  She is also seeded 7th in the 100 Butterfly Final along with Jr Talia Warticovschi in 6th.  SR Co-Captain Harriet Bezzant is seeded 10th in both the 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle.  JR Mary Dieckhaus is seeded 8th in the 100 Backstroke and 10th in the 200 Individual Medley.  And all three Ladue Relays (200 Medley, 200 Freestyle & 400 Freestyle) comprised of Sophie, Talia, Harriet, and Mary together with Sr Co-Captain Lena Liang and Jr Amy Pumm in various combinations, are in the Final (Top 8) Heats.  Jr. Samantha Fischer finished 6th in the 1-Meter Diving Final Friday evening with a score of 376.90, good enough to submit an application to be considered for NISCA All-American status while Sr Co-Captain Emerson Barnett leap into 21st, rising from the last possible qualifying slot in the exclusive field of the Top 32 Class 1 State divers.  Four teams (Parkway West, Parkway Central, Nerinx Hall and Ladue) are ALL within striking distance of capturing the 1st Place State Crown with Ladue VERY much in contention.  “THIS State Championship may well be the WILDEST and CLOSEST in history with the Top 4 Teams see-sawing up and down throughout the competition until the final score settles after the final relay to a separation of merely points, if not potentially a tie” says Head Coach Hap Gentry.  He adds “Ladue is piqued and ready!”
