Boys Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · B-S&D beat Parkway West, 95-91, in narrow victory

The Ladue Boys Swimming & Diving Team secured a narrow win in their season opener over Parkway West, 95-91.  SR Captain William Pan (200 IM; 100 BA) and SR Sam Garza (200/500 FR) were double winners while FR brother Daniel Garza was a single winner (100 BR; 2nd 50 FR).  While each team won 6 events out of 12, it was Ladue’s DEPTH that won the day by nearly the slimmest of margins (one team’s gain of 1 pt is the other team’s loss of 1 pt).  Scoring points are 6,4,3,2,1 for 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th places in the Individual events and 8,4,2 1st, 2nd, 3rd in Relay events.  Other from Ladue who scored points toward the win were: FR Jax Bespalko (2nd 200/500FR), JR Maddoc McGowan (2nd 100 FR; 3rd 200 FR), SR Vaughan Sterling (2nd Diving), SR Graham Fredman (2nd 100 FY), SR Sam Helmkampf (3rd 100 BR; 4th 200 IM), JR Grant Cox (3rd Diving), SO Alex Abreu (5th 50 FR), SO Andrew Chen (5th 100 FR), SO Brendan Raskin (5th 500 FR), SO Raymond Hu (5th 100 BA), and FR Mason Holzer (5th Diving).  Parkway West finished 5th ahead of 19th place Ladue last year at the MSHSAA Boys C-1 State Championships, so today’s competition suggests a GREAT season to come.

The team hosts John Burroughs School on Thursday, September 17th, streamed LIVE for family and fans interested to watch.
