Speech and Debate · Speech and Debate Team Members Earn TWO State Championships!


Seven members of the Talking Rams, the speech and debate team at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, competed at the Missouri State High School Activities Association’s Speech, Debate, and Theatre State Tournament this past week. The tournament took place virtually from Wednesday, the 21st of April through Saturday, the 24th of April.

The team took 5th place in Speech Sweepstakes and tied for 3rd place in Debate Sweepstakes. Additionally, team members earned two state championships, had four appearances in speech final rounds, and two debate teams in elimination rounds. Congratulations to the MSHSAA State competitors!

 

Anna Reis (12) – State Champion in International Extemporaneous Speaking and Semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate

 

Ryan Tung (11) – State Champion in United States Extemporaneous Speaking

 

Catherine Liao (12) – 7th place in Radio Speaking

 

Sophia Liu (11) – 8th place in Dramatic Interpretation

 

Grace Hu (12) and William Xie (12) – Quarterfinalists in Policy Debate

 

The team was also represented by Oviya Srihari (11) in Poetry Reading.
