Ladue Horton Watkins High School vs Mary Institute-Country Day School
140 41

The Girls Swimming & Diving Team had a busy first week of competition to start their season last week with two competitions. On Tuesday, November 27th they beat MICDS, 140-41, and started qualifying for the 2018-2019 Girls Class 1 MSHSAA Swimming & Diving State Championships (February 15-16) at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. Those from the team that scored points (Top 5 finishers in a Dual Meet) toward the win were: Paige Mitchell (1st 200 FR; 1st 500 FR), Mary Dieckhaus (1st 200 IM; 1st 100 BA), Sophie Fredman (1st 50 FR; 1st 100 BR), Talia Warticovschi (1st 100 FY; 2nd 200 IM), Lena Liang (1st 100 FR; 2nd 100 BR), Harriet Bezzant (2nd 200 FR; 2nd 500 FR), Sophia Munoz (3rd 200 IM; 3rd 100 BR), Schuyler Wolf (3rd 50 FR; 3rd 100 FY), Lauren Becker (4th 200 FR; 4th 500 FR), Samantha Fischer (1st Diving), Marlee Singer (3rd 100 FR), Catherine Liao (3rd 100 BA), Joanna Jurgiel (4th 50 FR), Emerson Barnett (4th Diving), Rhea Kaw (4th 100 FY ), and Cecilia Waterson (4th 100 BA). In addition, Ladue went 1-2 on all three relays. Admittedly, the win more reflects an absence of competition from MICDS who had greater difficulty than Ladue fielding their team to “full strength” due to the MSHSAA “14-Days of Practice” Rule given recent practice interruptions, such as snow days and the Thanksgiving holiday, and the scheduling of the meet so early in the season. Truth be told, once at full strength, MICDS will be a powerful team vying for top honors at the end of the season.
